Jenson Button secured pole position again in Spain in the last few seconds of qualifying time, with his Brawn team mate Rubens Barrichello starting in third separated by the Red Bull of Sebastian Vettel.
His third place start didn't stop Barrichello jumping to the front by the first corner overtaking both Vettel and Button. The first lap was however over-shadowed by a four car collision between Jarno Trulli, Sebastien Bourdais, Sebastien Buemi and Adrian Sutil which brought the safety car out.
This worked in Buttons favour as he quickly changed from a three-stop strategy to a two-stop strategy, while team mate Barrichello stayed on the original three-stop strategy. The strategy seemed well thought-through as Button continued to put in fast laps.
All the talk after the race was about 'team orders' and were Brawn protecting Button in order to win the Championship. This was denied by both Ross Brawn and Barrichello himself in the post race interviews.
The result overall means Button extends his lead at the top of the Championship; Brawn secure their second one-two finishes of the season and extend their lead at the top of the Constructors Championship. And what of Lewis Hamilton and McLaren? Well another disappointing result to finish in 9th position just outside the points, however rumours abound that there will be 'major' updates to the car for the next race.....we can just wait and see.
