Racing School instructor Jamie Stanley took a win and a hard fought second place in the WTCC Elise Trophy support Race at Brands Hatch. However the weekend was over shadowed by the tragic death of 18 year old Henry Surtees in the F2 race. Henry, son of multiple world champion John Surtees, was driving between Westfield Bend and Sheene Curve when he was struck on the head by a wheel and tyre from another car which had hit the tyre wall ahead of him just before. Henry was immediately knocked unconscious and his car failed to negotiate the following Sheene corner and collided with the barriers. The thoughts of The Racing School go out to the Surtees family at this sad time.
Jamie Stanley took to the track to contest the production class of the Lotus on Track Elise Trophy that was supporting the UK round of the World Touring Car Championship and the FIA Formula Two Championship.
Stanley had not been scheduled to contest the production class only race this weekend and was a last minute replacement for the injured Andre Walsh. Stanley first taste of the Carlimits.com entered car was during the qualifying session Stanley used the session to refine the setup of the car before leaving to the final lap of qualifying to take pole position for the first race of the weekend.
Stanley got his best start of the season and lead the pack into paddock for the first time Stanley then pulled away and dominated the race taking a clear lights to flag victory completing the fastest lap of the race along the way.
Race two would be a little more difficult as with all Elise Trophy races the second race of the weekend would be the revere top 10 from qualifying seeing Stanley line up tenth in the Sinclaires Motorsport run Elise. Stanley would also be carrying an additional 60kg of success ballast for his achievements in race one
At the start Stanley mad a good getaway and was up to fourth by lap two and was dicing with the 63 car of Mark Speller for third a lap later Stanley passed Speller into hawthorns and then chased down Steve Williams who had opened up an advantage.
Once Stanley got onto the back of Williams the pair locked horns fighting at just about every corner of the Brands Hatch GP Circuit before Stanley seized the lead into Surtees. Williams would not give up and pushed Stanley hard even getting alongside into Paddock Hill Bend. A lap later on the run to Hawthorns Stanley missed a gear and handed the lead back to Williams. Stanley pushed hard but was unable to retake the lead before the chequered flag fell.
"Its been a great weekend id like to thank Car limits and Siclaires again for putting me out in the car hopefully the two results will justify there faith in me" said Stanley
