Jamie Stanley takes A1GP Elise Trophy Honours

Jamie Stanley took to the Brands Hatch GP circuit to contest the Lotus On Track Elise Trophy as part of the support package for the British Round of A1GP The World Cup Of Motorsport on May 1,2,3.

Driving the Fox International backed Elise and run by Maidstone sports cars Stanley stormed the qualifying session and took pole position for the first two races.

Stanley made a god start but was beaten into the first corner by the fast starting Chris Randall. The pair would lead the pack out on to the GP loop and Stanley got the tow on the run down to Hawthorn Bend. Randall defended the inside line so Stanley went the long way round the outside to take the lead. Despite a brief safety car period Stanley would lead through to the finish to take his first outright win in three years.

Race two was much more straightforward with Stanley getting the drop from Chris Randall at the rolling start and the preceding to build a gap which he would maintain to the finish and in the process set a new Modified lap record of 1.38.544.

With the third and final race being the reverse top 10 from qualifying Stanley would certainly have his work cut out to repeat the success from the two earlier races. At the start Stanley got away well and was up to 6th on the run up to druids but a multiple car pile up would bring out the red flag. As the cars formed up on the grid for the restart the scrutiners inspected all the cars. Sadly Stanley had sustained minor damage but it would force the team to make speedy repairs while the rest of the grid proceed on a second green flag lap.

With the repairs now completed Stanley could now take the start but would have to do so from the pit lane once the entire field had passed him. Once the marshal let him go there was no stopping him. Stanley fought his way through the field up to fifth by the start of the final lap but while trying to pass Connaire Finn for forth Stanley came off the worse and lost out to Simon Deacon and Mark Gooday. Stanley re passed Gooday at Westfeilds and then got a run on Deacon to the line beating him to 5th by 0.090 of a second.

“ Its been an amazing weekend pole position two wins and a new lap record is a great result and id like to thank Fox and Arai for there support as I wouldn’t have been able to do it without them” said Stanley.

Stanley will be backing action when the series visits Snetterton in Norfolk for the Lotus Festival on June 14th .
